The Kremlin is calling
Friday, October 20, 2006 at 1:11
The red phone rang and I answered. Off to Russia in two weeks. Still waiting on the embassy to finish up with the VISA and have not figured out how to do the airport shuffle but I'm sure it will all fall into place.
I know -- you don't have to say it -- it will be colder then a witches tit in a brass bra. Stay tuned for updates on the bureaucratic nightmare that I expect it to be. I have learned two words and I think I'm ready to go!

LIFETRASH
Yes it was cold and I did return with the annual sickness that is becoming impossible to shake. The food -- if not horrendous -- was interesting to the same level that KBR food is in Iraq. I never knew that a beet could do that... to your insides.
However, the buildings were beautiful, the guides gracious. They patiently answered my questions of -- "Where is the THE BALLET school?" "How do they maintain their skating rinks?" "What do you think of Americans?" and "Have you ever read Mark Twain?".
Our St. Petersburg guide even gave me a list of Russian produced movies that she thought was really worth checking out. After all, she would know since her father was one of the leading movie producers in Russia during communism.
