The Holiday Play List - 3 Must Go
Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 20:04
The 2008 edition of the Holiday "Mixed Tape" is about ready to be released.
You have to forgive me for calling the CD a Mixed Tape ... my formative years were the 80's and if a boy really liked you he would make you a mixed tape of all the songs he liked. Which usually consisted of DOKKEN, RAT, MOTLEY CREW, DEAN KENNEDY's, JON BON JOVI, BRUCE SPRINGSTEN and I think you get the picture.
For the record: the boy usually had a mullet, parachute pants, and a members only jacket and before he got the nerve to make you a cassette tape (songs taped off the radio) he would pull your hair, and take his huge comb out of his back pocket and snap you on the ass with it.
I hope I’m not isolated in this experience -- because I've been going through life thinking it was pretty much common to have your hair pulled, followed by being snapped on the ass with huge comb, followed by mixed tape with Journey ballads and more then one song from Billy Joel's "Glass Houses".
I digress -- 2008 Mixed Tape Christmas edition.
Here's my issue ... I have a few to many songs on the CD and I have to cut 3 songs from the list before it goes to press and gets sent out.
1. Christmas in Las Vegas (for my fav LV guy) .... this one is not getting cut so don't even recommend it.
2. I've Got a Boner for Christmas (I like this song too)
3. I want an Alien for Christmas by Fountains of Wayne
4. Come on Let's Boogie to the Elf Dance by Sufjan Stevens
5. All I Want for Christmas (is to get drunk) by the Dirty Boyz
6. Wish List by Qyeendom
7. Christmas Time in Hell by Mr. Hankey and Friends
8. My First Christmas (As a Woman) by the Vandals
9. The Thanksgiving Song by Adam Sandler
10. Merry F#%$in' Christmas by Denis Leary
11. Carol of the Meows by Guster
12. Just Call Me Scrooge by Fishbone
13. Donna and Blitzen by Badly Drawn Boy
14. Hanukah Snowman by Phranc
15. Santa's Beard by They Might Be Giants (this one is for Dirndl)
16. We'll Call it Christmas by Supersuckers
17. Thank God It's Christmas by Queen
18. Father Christmas by the Kinks
19. Mele Kalikimaka by Jimmy Buffett (It's a Hawaiian song)
20. Feliz Navidad by Sponge Bob Square Pants and Dora the Explorer
21. Green Christmas by the Barenaked Ladies
22. A Change at Christmas (Say It Isn't So) by the Flaming Lips
23. XMas Time is Here Again by My Morning Jacket
Three songs must go ... which ones should it be?

Don't know most of the other songs, but I favor diversity - Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Hawaiian, Spanish, and transsexual/transgenderism:). Carol of the Meows (title) sounds hilarious. As hokey as the title sounds, I like "Come on Let's Boogie to the Elf Dance." I also like Badly Drawn Boy. Hate to disrespect Queen (they're iconic, if nothing else), but "Thank God It's Christmas" is maybe too slow? I'm having enough Gluehwein withdrawal without Xmas ballads to bring me down!
